The Moderate Voice: God Wants Mark Sanford to Stay On As Governor

  • Jazz · 5 months ago
I don't think you're going to take a lot of "pounding" for this one, Kathy, even from my side of the aisle. Sanford's list of friends and backers is pretty thin at this point, and those with hopes for long political futures are putting distance between themselves and him as if he had crabs. For that matter... no. Let's not go there.

Jazz, LOL! Well you know that saying about making lemonade out of lemons. Maybe Mark Sanford is trying to make crabcakes out of crabs. :)

It's true, he should stay on based only on his merits as governor. How he works out the very private details of his adultery behind his wife's back is all that matters. True, if they work it out and stay married, they can be an example to follow.

    Just like the Clinton affairs..

Oh...wait a minute. They tarred and feathered Bill even though he and Hillary worked it out and stayed together. They impeached him.

The GOP can't have it both ways. Sorry Sanford...

The sin is pride, indeed. First the arrogance to leave his state unattended while he ran off on a selfish junket. Now the arrogance to divine the will of "god". I don't give a rip about having an Argentine lover. But, the self righteous sanctimony of first comparing himself to the Biblical David and now this. His pride runneth over.

Of course, if you are an atheist like me, then you can take the position that NOTHING wants him to remain Governor!

i found the below link to be interesting. . .it seems looking at the personal psychology and social political culture might be a better frame for understanding than religion, even if there is a religious cover or platform under some of the players. . . the hard thing about being "edgy" on issues like this is often one finds it is the "bleeding edge". . .it can be an infliction not only the players but also for those that hold their faith with integrity . . .kinda like stepping on a thousand lady bugs to squash a fly. . .

if religious hypocrisy is truly the issue why not try to understand how it is possible for us humans to miss the mark and send a prayer. . .

"While it would be personally easier to exit stage left, their point has been that my larger sin was the sin of pride.” So now you're talking about the seven cardinal sins....

Hello.... Mark Sanford.... you consider the Catholic Church's classification of sin (which Popes have changed over time) to be greater than the Ten Commandments directly from God?

So tell us what your WIFE wants. After all when you two took the sacred marriage vows in front of God you were honoring him. Your betrothal to your wife is a sacred union. She may not care what your political ambitions are, but I bet she sure as hell cares for the marriage and would rather you tend to this sacred union than pursue man's goals.

You can't expect me to believe that God would have you break a sacred union, a union which honors God and which you vowed to keep until death (and it's probably your most sacred vow).... to break that to pursue the ambitions of man.

Man, your moral compass is stuck on a heading pointing South (literally and metaphorically). Do yourself a favor and get a new set of friends. No wonder your wife wants to leave you and take the kids to raise in a better environment. You're one f*cked up guy.

All politics is local, so I imagine Sanford is banging whatever drum he thinks will help him in South Carolina.
  • tidbits · 5 months ago
    GS - It wasn't a drum he was banging. I know, I know...comment policy...just couldn't resist.

I still say his wife should divorce him and then run to replace him in office.
