Also I would point out the hardest part of getting out any vote is having people actually show up on Election Day. Al & Jesse can't be everywhere at once, but they could have been encouraging absentee voting all along. They can also still put the word out through their own channels on Election Day to make time to get to the polls and vote. There's always plenty to be done.

Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are very influential but also divisive when taken in the context of the country as a whole; just look at what happened with the remarks of a similar figure, John Lewis. Obama has been fighting pretty hard to avoid the kind of fireworks we saw over the Rev. Wright issue.

I see eye to eye with T_Steel on this one, a bit of jealously and sour grapes from the old guard.

i'm with t steel on this one. i think obama has purposely stayed away from the sharptons and jacksons, to avoid the taint of old school crap.

even today jackson was spouting off about how an obama presidency would change the scape of the middle east, and when asked about it on msnbc, an obama staffer (sorry, forget her name) very pointedly insisted that jackson was not affiliated with or advisor to the campaign.

which i think is a good idea.

DLS, that old ACORN dog won't hunt. There's no legit evidence that they have engaged in any electoral fraud, as the GOP has, and in 2005 McCain praised them as "what's right in America" (he was their keynote speaker). Good luck trying to smear Obama for not denouncing the organization that McCain is only denouncing as a part of his desperate smear campaign, after praising them less than 3 years ago.

Thank you for stating the obvious DLS (no disrespect intended Joe). Many of those "old guard" black civil rights leaders are just upset that Obama didn't come through their gateway (a gateway that served it's purpose and needs to be permanently shut down).

Yes, I would say, since black support for Obama is at the 90-plus per cent level now, meaning there are no problems. Plus ACORN and no doubt others are helping to boost Dem vote totals in their customary ways outside legal bounds.
