A Kerry nomination would do nothing - even hurt Obama - in the middle of the fall. But at this stage, a Kerry endorsement suggests some Democratic establishment support for Obama's candidacy. Obama needs core Democrats to vote for him at this point - not Independents. Obama lost considerably among registered Democratic voters in New Hampshire, and didn't fare all that well among them in Iowa. While only about 7 states still have closed primaries these days, it is essential for Obama to prove to Democratic primary voters that he can walk the walk and deliver on what he represents to core party voters. It was McCain's failure to do this that sunk him in South Carolina in 2000, and it will hurt Obama this year as well.

Re: John Kerry Endorses Barack Obama

As a man who previously voted in the Illinois primary for Edwards, but subsequently supported Kerry for president, I cringed during Kerry's campaign for president when he made his famous "flip-flops"; and then many years afterwards he still didn't learn his lesson when he botched a "joke" supposedly about Bush which came off as anti-military. He didn't want to defend his war record since he was afraid of disclosing his poor performance in college, which would reflect on his supposedly superior intellect. I find his endorsement of Obama as another patented Kerry "flip-flop". He didn't endorse John Edwards, his Vice-Presidential candidate. Apparently Kerry wasn't pleased that Edwards didn't act as an "attack dog" running mate on his behalf, and this is Kerry's payback. If we had an Edwards-Kerry ticket in 2004, things in this country would have been favorably different, I'm sure. If Kerry hadn't shot off his mouth during Congressional hearings right after his Vietnam tour, he wouldn't have been "Swift-boated" during his campaign. If you own a Silver Star, you don't savage your country, right or wrong.

With an endorsement from Kerry, it's like Obama getting a case of poison ivy, the harder you scratch, the worse it gets.

Christopher Hahin
Professional Engineer
Former AF Officer
1/10/08

Re: John Kerry Endorses Barack Obama

Maybe Kerry's hoping for an invite to be Obama's VP! (Obama should pick someone like Richardson instead, who can balance the ticket geographically).

Re: John Kerry Endorses Barack Obama

The S.S. He just gave as good as Hillary gave.

Re: John Kerry Endorses Barack Obama

The only bit that stands out is the Whizbang comment about Dems eating their own. Honestly, what a load of nonsense. Lieberman was fairly defeated in the Democratic primary because he's not (and hasn't been for a while) a true Dem. The whole point of a primary is to pick the guy who best represents your party. Lieberman stopped being that guy for Connecticut, so the Dems picked someone else. Isn't that what we're supposed to be doing in elections?
