If McCain can pull back the GOP base...that plus his strength among Independents could put him over the top in November. I well recall the shell-shock among Democrats in '04 as Bush mined this base and blew Kerry away.</p><p>I had assumed conventional wisdom being accurate that McCain was toast among evangelicals.</p><p>What an election year!
