Some people will stop at *nothing* to try and play politics with something as devastating as this. I flip on over to Memeorandum, and the top story of the moment is how some republicans are trying their hardest to bash Obama over the tragedy (http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/politics/A-Disco...).

Srlsy? At this time of national tragedy, instead of supporting our troops the republicans decide to weakly score political points? At the expense of many mourning military families? I am *disgusted* that some republicans would stoop so low. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Always have been nuts, always will be nuts. Even if there were a strong majority committed to moderation, centristm, and civil discourse, there would still be a nut fringe (on both ends of the spectrum).

In some strange way, centrists are attracted to nuts because they provide us with a target we're comfortable attacking. So it's important for centrists not to get too caught up in worrying about the extremes.

IMHO, the real challenge for making politics better is challenging the cheap talking points and bad policies offered by certifiably non-crazy people on both sides of the aisle. Of course, that is much, much harder, since intelligent people will constantly disagree about which talking points are cheap and which policies are bad.

For that reason, moderation and centrism cannot be political philosophies. They are dispositions that contribute to better politics.

Yes...the site that pushed the story as a terrorism story and tagged it as being "war" now decries politicization of the news cycle.

Pushed it as a terrorism story? I think someone missed something. The post's title was "Possible Terrorist Attack at Ft. Hood". It was posted just as the story was breaking and that was the speculation of other news outlets.
