The topic is fascination as well as shocking. There are many untold stories that have recently been exposed, Sally Hemmings and Tom Jefferson, Strom Thuron and his conflicted life, the fact that hundreds of thousands of Blacks fought in the Civil War and many Blacks made rapid progress after the Civil WQar until the beginning of Jim Crow and the KKK as well as the decline in Federal Aid to Freedmen.
Triva includes the fact that there are NO whites named Jefferson or Washington because whites at the time did not want to be mistaken by the mulatto offspring of these presidents. THe word "honky" comes from the pratice of white men riding trhough Black areas looking for women to harass/pick up. The curse word mother f------" comes from the practice of rape of Black women during and after slavery.

Re: Slavery By Another Name

I saw BANISHED, and it's text book material.

It's a snapshot of how difficult it is for well-meaning people to arrive at understanding and acknowledging the view from the other angle.
The emphais is on 'well-meaning,, not extremists, and that's the beginning of a great conversation we should have but shy away from.
