David, If the pattern from the past holds up, Hamas will likely be replaced by an even more extreme group. It wasn't too long ago that the PLO was deemed to dangerous to deal with or legitimize. Then it was the same thing with Fatah.
It shouldn't surprise anyone if Israel ends up longing for the days of Hamas.
