The alternative is adding four or five weeks to the trip and going around the Cape of Good Hope (at $30,000 a  day).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;That Saudi tanker was headed for the U. S. There is no "return."  They've been constantly known (if ignored by the media, of all kinds) in particular since the era of the Vietnamese Boat People and ever since -- in the Strait of Malacca most of all, but also in the Indian Ocean, off Colombia, in the Caribbean (no, not the teevee and cinema kind), and off Africa as well (not only the Horn but, for example, off the Nigerian coast and West African coast).
