If anyone is wondering why we're interested in what goes on in the Gulf of Aden, insurance rates for ships passing through the Gulf on their way to the Suez Canal have increased ten-fold recently and are likely to rise farther. The alternative is adding four or five weeks to the trip and going around the Cape of Good Hope (at $30,000 a day).

That Saudi tanker was headed for the U. S. The costs of development and pumping oil out of the ground aren't the only things that go into making up the price of oil.

I've been covering this stuff with several posts over at Outside the Beltway for the last week or so.

??? There is no "return." They've been constantly known (if ignored by the media, of all kinds) in particular since the era of the Vietnamese Boat People and ever since -- in the Strait of Malacca most of all, but also in the Indian Ocean, off Colombia, in the Caribbean (no, not the teevee and cinema kind), and off Africa as well (not only the Horn but, for example, off the Nigerian coast and West African coast). This is no suddenly "new" story (much less befitting of Hollywood humor).
