So after working for media I can tell you money like all businesses is a prime concern. It becomes difficult to take the high road when you have shrinking margins in a future that looks bleak. Something that is difficult for Washington Post is that they are looking for a ways to stay afloat and just to survive in the market. This may become difficult since the ability to distribute information have become increasingly fluid. While a company like the Washington Post has the big brand this is probably the only real competitive advantage. Great minds do not need a brand to hang their hat on; they can become their own brand and this is what&#39s happening.

Washington Post would say any old Joe reporting lacks credibility, this may be true however credibility is something that is established. Individual will establish credibility as they gain a following. Individual talent now can bypass the established media.

Agreed that readers and viewers will have to weed through more junk however I question if it&#39s really that much different than reading through bad articles auto advertisements and a host of other stuff you really didn&#39t want from goal your newspaper television station and radio stations.

People hold onto these brands as security blankets but as new media namely the Internet ...people will grow and let go of the security of old crusty media.

Media is looking for way to make money. They will use and this case abuse what is part of the core business. Let us face it, if we want facts in news it is hard to find. When we do find them we should look at them with healthy skepticism, they have become nothing more then a big conglomerate spin doctor. Media has an objective and it is their own survival, when people need to eat they will do almost anything. The truth is the media business model is outdated and so we are seeing a dying business model. It will get ugly.

After reading Chris&#39 posts for the last three years, I am willing to concede he is even left of Olberman, so I understand his comment.

I believe him to view the corporate form of ownership as an evil wrought on society and I suspect he may also not even be fully comfortable with the notion of private ownership at all.

Hey hats off to the truth teller. YES, it is that way. No, not just now and not just because the WAPA does it. Why do you think anyone interested in the journalism now looks to the web?

In fact, the corruption is rapidly consuming the root. Journo schools are graduating corporate journos just like investigative academics lose their tenure unless they tow the line. Even social work, an occupation dear to my heart, long ago had their more progressive and socialistic agendas replaced by those of the heath care providers (read insurance companies). It&#39s been going on for at least a decade, at least since Reagan......eating away whole pieces of the fabric of society.

They say the Banks own the government. No? General Smedley Butler says the military exists for the primary purpose of protecting corporate entities on foreign soil. Did the US Govt. have anything to do with the Honduran coup? Well, yeaaaaaaaaaaa! All the major oil companies are in Iraq holding bidding contests on who will run Iraqi oil. Who will represent the Iraqi people about their most valuable resource? NONE! And why is Israel allowed to run concentration camps and kidnap ships in international waters carrying supplies for Gaza.

Their are investigative reporters reporting on all these issues....but for the most part.......you won&#39t find them in your local or regional paper.......You want the NEWS, -- watch Colbert & Stewart and yes the web bloggers. It is important to understand that the real news is not supported.......which means our democracy better resembles an oligarchy.

There is bias in other media outlets. But other than 3 hours of MSNBC programming, it&#39s all conservative.

Just take a look at who is on the WaPo editorial staff. It&#39s like a neocon all-star lineup.

Speaking of bad journalism ..
Has anyone else noticed that we seem to be getting a lot more editorials than we receive actual news reports?
Worse, anyone else noticed that a lot of people don&#39t seem to notice the difference between the two?

Oh, and the White House is playing make believe too. The Post would have never made this offer without first getting RSVP&#39s from the White House&#39s "key insiders".
