Thomas Eisenstadt has a provocative post today about the King and Asst. Sec. of State Thomas Callahan. Turns out they may have been frat buddies at Dartmouth. Worth looking into....
http://www.eisenstadtgroup.com/2008/03/07/animal-house-and-the-king-how-the-plagiarism-scandal-leads-to-very-strange-places/

Re: U.S. Gives Wink and Nod to Gaza Invasion

I have to agree with Rudi: neither side wants peace.
They want revenge. Maybe only battle fatique, and that does happen, will bring this condfict to an end.

At his point, it's useless to reiterate the pros and cons of each side. What determines events is that each side has its own narrative line, and whether right or wrong, those narratIves are deeply believed and are mutually exclusive. No amount of kiling will cause a change of mind, except only if they get exhausted from the effort.
Stalemate.

Re: U.S. Gives Wink and Nod to Gaza Invasion

Peace will come to Israel and Hamas when both want peace. At this time, neither side really wants peace. This includes the hawks here at home.

Re: U.S. Gives Wink and Nod to Gaza Invasion

Condi Rice's huge error was jawboning Israel & Fatah into allowing Hamas to participate in the '06 elections. Now she is being lambasted as somehow a hawk. The Middle East is so full of resentments and millennial hatreds that no one is ever going to reach a peace as long as Hamas promotes genocide of the Jews. And of course, of Shi'ites. And the Sunni Hamas do hate Christians too. Hamas has a laundry list of those to be exterminated---or put under submission of sharia law.
