Oh the damage the influence of BigOil has done to our country....

They need to make restitution or we really will go under.

So the article says we're going the way of GM yet it's up to us to stop Iran from getting Nukes?

I do believe that the Bush administration gave the cold shoulder to many of our allies and there is some needed work to patch up relationships.

With talk about moving Oil from trading on the USD to other currency, it does seem like our position in the world isn't where it was, but is that necessarily a bad thing?

    Scary!

    Sensationalism.

Not that we aren't in a bad spot, but the majority of the world is in a much worse spot. Even places like China and India would totally collapse if many of the countries in weaker positions than the US went belly up, with their export centric economies.

Whether you think its good or not... we have the biggest and strongest economy in the world, we're the center of commerce, our language is the world's language, we're the cultural center of the world and we have the only real world spanning military. Who knows if/when any of those things will change in the next 50 years, but having one terrible president make us look bad in the eyes of many around the world doesn't change where we sit on so many measurable accounts.

Spare us the hand ringing. Economic, religious and political freedom. Democratic representation and governance. Individual liberties guaranteed by a strong constitution and separation of powers. Perfect? No. Blemishes? Sure. A lost legacy? Hardly.

[grin] No, just the rotten old Cyanide Nation parts of this country are going the way of Gummint Motors.

"Individual liberties guaranteed by a strong constitution"

Going the way of General Motors since the 1930s, if you know your history. But with broad approval.

As for today and tomorrow, health care is starting to go the way of General Motors (federal gov control).
